World Bank Assures Fayose of Support


The World Bank has assured that it would support the 6-cardinal agenda of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose aimed at bettering the lives of the grassroots and the less privileged.


The international development partner gave the assurance on Tuesday when Governor Fayose paid a visit to the World Bank’s office in Abuja to discuss various programmes especially Governance and Capacity Building programme supported by the Bank in Ekiti State.


Presenting the agenda of his government, Governor Fayose said the
over-arching objective of his administration was to empower the people of the State through employment generation for the less privileged such as the artisans, motorcyclists, and farmers among other groups of citizens.

The Governor said his administration was irrevocably committed to
transforming the State by creating enabling environment for rapid
socio-economic development.

Fayose expressed the readiness of his government to collaborate with the World Bank in order to benefit from its various developmental programmes such as the Youth Employment Scheme (YESO), HIV/AIDS and State Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP) among others.

He however insisted that the local peculiarities of the State must be countenanced in the guideline and conditions given by the World Bank for its support.

Earlier in her remarks, the World Bank country Director, Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly had commended Governor Fayose for his initiative and expressed the willingness of the Bank to support the development agenda of the Fayose-led government.

Marie-Nelly commended Fayose for his anti-corruption posture and
insistence on diligence and other steps aimed at promoting efficiency
and effectiveness in the State public service.

The Country Director assured that the bank would ensure consistency of its support to its various programmes with emphasis on governance and capacity building.

Governor Fayose was accompanied the State Head of Service, Dr Olugbenga Faseluka, the Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, and the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Chief Gbenga Olajide.

On the World Bank team were the Country Director, Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly, Ekiti-born World Bank consultant, Chief Bayo Awosemusi and other world bank officials.
