A MAGISTRATE’S Court sitting in Akure yesterday ordered a 43-year-old truck driver, Alex Nayade, to be remanded in prison custody for allegedly killing another 43-year-old man identified as Oladokun Sunday.
The accused person, who lives in Lagos, was alleged to have caused the death of Oladokun, an auto mechanic, when going back home from work last Saturday through reckless driving along Ilesa/Akure Expressway.
The charge sheet, as read in the court, the accused person drove a truck with Registration No Lagos AGL 105 XL and hit Oladokun with the truck, leading to his death.

Nayade, who was accused of murder among other offences, was not represented by any counsel in the court and pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him.
Earlier, the families and relatives of the late Oladokun popularly known as “Sunday Rewire” had allegedly accused the police and personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of destroying the evidences to prosecute the reckless driver.
The Guardian also learnt that the telecommunications company which owns the truck and the employers of Nayade, have made several overtures to the bereaved family of the victim to settle the matter out of court, but they declined, seeking justice to serve as deterrent to other reckless truck drivers.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Sola Omolade, told the court that the accused person committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 18(II) of the Criminal Code Cap Vol. VI laws of Nigeria 2006.
While delivering her ruling, the Presiding Magistrate Mrs. Bunmi Dosumu ordered the accused person to be remanded in Olokuta Prison custody pending the determination of his case.
She also ordered that Nayade’s case be forwarded to the state Ministry of Justice for legal advice while adjourning the case to August 20, 2015.
