Post-UTME: Fake officials swindle candidates

Some of the candidates for the post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of the Delta State University, Abraka, have been defrauded by fraudsters parading themselves as the school’s admission officials.

It was reliably gathered that these fraudsters printed complimentary cards of political appointees to hoodwink unsuspecting admission seekers into transacting business with them.

They were said to have also recruited agents within the Abraka campus, who helped with their operations and an estimated sum of N1.2 million was said to have been collected from the candidates.

SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that these fake officials allegedly collected money from the unsuspecting candidates, and then offered them provisional admission into the university.

With over 25,000 candidates seeking admission into DELSU, indications are that only 1,000 would be offered admission.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, confirmed that efforts were being made to track down the fraudsters, pointing out that there had been several complaints by victims in the recent times.

As part of their strategies, the fraudsters opened an account where their victims were made to pay N191, 250 into.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested two men suspected to be ritual killers after they abducted two school children in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that before the arrest by policemen, an angry mob had pounced on the suspects and beaten them to a state of coma.
