A 28-year-old man, Mohammed Abu, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl.
The accused guard who lives at No. 38, Adebola St., Anifowoshe area in Ikeja, is facing a charge of defilement.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Rachael Williams, told the court that the offence was committed on June 1 at the accused’s residence.
“The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was returning from school when the accused called her under the pretext of asking her for a direction.

“Before she knew what was happening, he had raped her and told her not to tell anyone. It was a month after the incident that she discovered that she had missed her period,” Williams said.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The section prescribes life imprisonment for the offence. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned the case to Sept. 2 for mention.
