Environmental polluters won't go unpunished ─ Lagos State Government

The Lagos State Government says nobody or organisation found culpable of polluting the environment would be allowed to go scot-free.

The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, during the monitoring of the monthly environmental sanitation at the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area on Saturday, said the law guiding the sanitation did not say some people should be able to escape justice when apprehended for flouting the sanitation law.

She advised Lagosians to join hands with the government by ensuring a clean Lagos and obeying the law on environmental sanitation.

She said, “The law is there for us to follow. So we are appealing to residents of Lagos to work in accordance with the law of the state.”

Speaking with some residents of the LCDA, Adebule urged them to work with the new administration, adding that all their needs in the area would be attended to by the governor.

She said, “I want to implore our people to be committed to the issue of the environment and ensure adequate cleaning of our surroundings at all times. We have noted your complaints and I want to assure you that necessary government agencies will be mobilised to address them.

“But you must also be ready to take ownership of these facilities once they are in place and ensure adequate care of them.”

She added that the government had compiled a list of projects to be embarked upon across all the 57 local governments and local council development areas of the state, noting that the people would soon start to feel the impact of the new administration.

“We have been to Dagbolu, Ori-Okuta and Believers roads. We have noticed the poor state of the roads. For now, some palliative measures will be carried out on the roads.”

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the LCDA, Adunni Oyefusi, appealed to the government to help the council to tackle the problem of infrastructural decay in the area
