Bayelsa APC gets 15-day notice to vacate secretariat

A socio-cultural youth body, Mangrove Boys Brigade of Bayelsa State, has threatened to seal the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in Yenagoa.

The group alleged the secretariat located at Izagara Close, off Baybridge Road, Kpansia area of the state capital, belongs to the state government.

The group, in a statement on Wednesday, claimed it had officially written to President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to direct the Timipre Sylva-led APC in the state, to immediately vacate the property or risk forceful ejection after 15 days.

Spokesman for the group, Kingboy Peretimi Joshua, said the letter to Buhari was against the backdrop of an earlier appeal for him to intervene in the matter, given the claim by the Sylva-led APC that their action was allegedly backed by the national leadership of the APC.

According to him, despite the claim by the APC in the state, that they have the full backing of the leaders of the party at the centre, the group remains doubtful of the claim, knowing Buhari’s tough stance on the rule of law.

Joshua said, “As a man, who believes in the rule law and its importance in a democratic dispensation like ours, we are calling on President Buhari, to as a matter of urgency prevail on Sylva and the APC to obey the subsisting court order, which had ordered the APC to vacate the said premises.

“We note with concern the actions of the APC in Bayelsa State, which are deliberate and intended to provoke violence, heat up the system and breakdown of law and order. If not nipped in the bud by Buhari, this matter will have far-reaching consequences.”

He claimed that after several peaceful moves to have the APC vacate the property, the State Government, through the Yenagoa Capital City Development Authority, obtained an order of interim injunction from the High Court of Bayelsa State.

He said the case was presided over by Justice G.S. Botei on July 22, 2015 to the effect that the APC should vacate the property, pending the determination of the motion on notice.
