Reports reaching us say the government of South Africa has finally returned the $9.3m cash it confiscated from Nigeria after it apprehended two Nigerians and an Israeli who were private dealers contracted to shop for arms for Nigeria with a briefcase full of cash on board a private jet.

According to a report in the Daily Post, the release followed legal and diplomatic processes initiated by the former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki who coincidentally has been “released” from house arrest by the SSS.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was forced to resort to the alternative market to acquire arms to adequately combat the Boko Haram insurgency when western powers refused to sell to Nigeria despite public declarations that they were cooperating with the country’s efforts to combat the terror group.

However their effort was thwarted following the arrest of the men at Lanseria International Airport, Johannesburg, on September 5 2014.
The failure of the Jonathan-led PDP administration to degrade the lethal capabilities of Boko Haram was one of the greatest undoings of the government especially in the eyes of the international community
