Okowa dissolves DESOPADEC board

GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has dissolved board of the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPPADEC.

The dissolution which is contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr Festus Agas, is with immediate effect. According to the statement, board members of the commission were directed to handover all government property including vehicles in their possession to the commission’s secretary.
The dissolution may not be unconnected with the governor’s desire to give strength to the DESOPADEC law with a determination to structure it in line with the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC model through an amendment of the bill.

It will be recalled that Governor Okowa in his inaugural speech, had said that “SMART is not so much a new policy as it is a new approach to address our most pressing needs.

It will sustain and deepen the policy of less dependency on oil and lay a solid foundation for economic growth and infrastructural development.”
