The lawmaker representing Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Hassan Atayoma Omale has condemned incessant Fulani attacks in his constituency which he said has led to loss of lives and property worth millions of naira.
In a chat with DAILY POST at the National Assembly in Abuja, Hassan expressed shock over the attack that, peaceful and loving people were being wasted on a daily basis as a result of herdsmen attacks.
Highlighting reasons behind the ugly incident within the Kogi axis, he attributed the scenario to a spill-over of Agatu and Fulani Herdsmen crisis which has been ongoing in Benue state for quite some time now. “You know, all the local governments which I represent at the federal constituency share boundaries with Benue State, and when crisis erupts, the victims move down to these places as Internal Displaced People, thus these herdsmen would come around, kill, maim and retreat”, he explained.
He stated that farmers were no longer safe going to farm anymore while expressing fears that if the ugly trend is not nipped in the bud, it could lead to food shortages as most of these people are agrarian farmers whose food supply to popular Afor Market in Ankpa Local government and Oba market in Nsukka local government of Enugu State would be negatively affected.
He called on security agencies to put their acts together to protect lives and property, while promising that he would do everything possible within the ambit of his legislative responsibilities to alleviate hardships created as a result of these incidents.
He warned those harbouring the attackers to desist from doing so in their own interest as the law would not spare them no matter their position in the society if they were caught.
