Ekiti 2018: APC Must Unite or… – Ex-Rep

A member of the 7th House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has advised the All Progressives Party (APC) members, in Ekiti State, to unite, warning that that intra-party squabbles and disunity among them, may rob the party of victory in the much-awaited 2018 governorship.

According to him, “Though, I have seen some people declaring ambitions to contest, but I believe that we must first come together as a strong family before doing that. We are taking steps and, by the grace of God, we will approach the next election with more vigour and strength to be able to recapture Ekiti”.

He also declared that the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee (NWC), had committed no crime by setting agenda on who should be elected as leaders of the 8th National Assembly, in line with the party supremacy doctrine.

Faparusi, a member of Ekiti APC Restoration Group, gave an assurance that he and other like-minded APC leaders were working hard to unify the party and bring all splinter groups under one umbrella, so as to defeat the Peoples’ Democratic party in 2018. Expressing APC’s determination to recapture the state, Faparusi, said such herculean task could only be achieved, if the party had a united house devoid of acrimony.

“As leaders and beneficiaries of the party, we must reposition the APC. We are meeting with former governors, former senators and members of the House of Representatives and others, on the need to brainstorm on the future of our party.

He spoke in Ode Ekiti, recently during a thanksgiving, marking the completion of his four-year term, as a federal parliamentarian.

Present at the occasion were former Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party and now APC Chieftain, Chief Ropo Adesanya, Senator Gbenga Aluko, represented by his Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Dare Abey, Ex-council boss, Mr. Paul Abegunde, former Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Apalara Adewumi, among others.

On the leadership crisis rocking the federal legislature, Faparusi said, it was the prerogative of a party, particularly the ruling party, to guide its elected members and ensure that they executed programmes that would be in tandem with the mission and vision of its president.

“The APC has not breached any law by interfering because lobbying is a part of legislative norms and convention. The party can lobby for a certain candidate to occupy a certain position for certain reasons”, he stated
