Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has said his administration will sponsor over 20,000 youths in agriculture to make them self -reliant.
Ikpeazu, who stated this, in Umuahia, added that the state would sponsor the first batch of the youths to Porto Novo, Benin Republic, to study integrated agriculture before the end of this year
He said that his administration intended to meaningfully engage over 20,000 youths from the state.
The governor described the move as a clear departure from the past practice where vehicles and stipends were given out as empowerment items to the youths, insisting that what the “youths desire is sustainable empowerment which begins with qualitative education.”
He promised to launch a special security task force comprising the Police, Army and the Department of State Security Services in the state to check kidnapping and other violent crimes which appear to be returning to the state.
The governor also disclosed that his administration would in the next three months commission the revenue house which would be a one stop shop for those willing to do business in the state, adding that the guideline for all approved taxes payable in the state will soon be ready.
