YOUTHS of Ukwa Oil producing area of Abia State have sent a Save Our Soul appeal to the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to restore electricity supply to the area, after staying in darkness for over a year.
The youths, under the aegis of “Joint Youth Council of Ukwa” had in their letter to the governor captioned “Ukwa: Our Stance And Prayers”, urged the appropriate authority or agency to “preferably change Ukwa Power phase to the nearby Afam Power Station, since the present Ala-Oji Station is already overloaded.”
Other pleas made to the governor, were the commencement of works on the proposed Obeaku-Ndoki Sea Port within his first year in office; increase of the annual budget of the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission; and relocation of its head office from Umuahia, the state capital to Ukwa “ for effective service delivery.” They also urged him to give priority to youth empowerment for the Ukwas, especially in political appointments and business patronage.
To the state ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Ukwa Youth Council urged that, as a matter of equity, justice and fairness, it should consider an Ukwa legislator for the position of the Leader of the new State House of Assembly.
Their letter, which was jointly signed by Comrade Collins Azubuike, Barrister Orji O. Orji and Kingsley Nna Okadigbo as Chairman, Secretary and National Leader respectively, commended the governor for the ongoing rehabilitation of some roads in Aba, Umuahia and Ndi Oji Abam and urged him to extend same to Ukwa roads, which they listed as abandoned Obohia-Ohuru-Aba, Ohanku-Aba and Ogwe- Obokwe-Uratta road junction.
