A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed his teacher in front of his classmates on Wednesday, West Yorkshire, England, UK.
The teenage boy had allegedly attacked the supply teacher with a kitchen knife smuggled into school. He stabbed the 50-year-old Nigerian national in the stomach in a row over a mobile phone he was playing during a science lesson and then fled the scene. Vincent Uzomah, a married father-of-two, was rushed to hospital for treatment, luckily, his injuries are described as not life-threatening.
There were a number of students who witnessed the assault, which took place in a classroom, and gave details of the incident to police. The teen has been arrested six hours after the incident and is currently in custody. Now Mr Uzomah’s family, his wife Uduak Imeh-Uzomah and their children Samuel, 12, and Glory, 11, are with him at his hospital bedside.
Executive principal of the Dixons Academy group, Nick Weller, said: “It happened right at the beginning of the school day and there were some students who witnessed it. Those students have been interviewed by the police. Obviously, it’s a very shocking thing for them to see. The general atmosphere in the school is very calm, quite orderly, we’re trying to keep to normal routines as much as possible.”
