Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again reignites Abuja theatre

Inspite of the fact that there is an urgent need to revive theatre going culture of Nigerians, the awareness of theatre production and the number of theatre goers seem to be a little encouraging in Lagos State. Back in the days of the iconic Hubert Ogunde, theatre was a viable art form. From city to city, Nigerians came out en masse to watch theatre productions. One can’t help but ask, where are the theatre goers in Nigeria?

What has happened to the Nigerian stage plays? The trend appears to have changed in the past decades and one is tempted to blame it all on westernisation which so much brought with it, change in desires and needs of the present generation. Apart from Lagos, many cities in Nigeria have not witnessed stage play productions in many years.

Theatre devotees who understand and believe in the efficacy of theatre as a veritable tool for the simulation of progress and the best form of entertainment have been on a crusade to revive the dwindling theatre orientation in Nigeria. Every Sunday in Lagos, a theatre production holds, thanks to Terra Kulture and other partner theatre organisations.

The capital city of Abuja is the next destination for the reinstatement of theatre shows. Mosaic Theatre Production in partnership with Cruise Entertainment are storming Abuja to reignite the passion for stage plays. This they are set to achieve with a theatrical masterpiece – Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again.

The play, was written by one of Nigeria’s finest dramatists, late Professor Ola Rotimi and is being directed by an erudite and prolific theatre director, Agozie Ugwu. The production will be holding at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja, in August, 2015. The Sheraton Hotels and Towers support for the re-introduction of theatre in Abuja is highly commendable. The play in it’s entirety, contains no politically stimulated scenes or language. It is a rib cracking comedy that will get the city laughing.

It parades some of Nollywood’s finest actors and actresses, Ramsey Noah, Ann Njemanze, Patrick Diabuah, TY James and other professional and popular stage actors and actresses. Ola Rotimi’s masterpiece is being staged, courtesy of Maxcare Pharmacy and Stores which understands the therapeutic power of theatre and thus have encouraged the crusade for the revival of theatre in Abuja.
