Kwara State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned Abdullahi Tanko, the suspected killer of late Miss Idowu Yetunde Shukurat, a female National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, before Magistrate K. A. Yahyah in Ilorin.
The remains of late Miss Idowu Yetunde Shukura was found on the street in GRA, Ilorin, in May, having earlier left a shopping mall.
Angered by the mysterious death of the corps member, the Director General of NYSC in Abuja sent a delegation to Ilorin, the state capital, to meet the stakeholders, including the police, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari, and the state government, among others, on the need for synergy to unravel the mystery behind the death of the youth corps member so as to serve as deterrent to others.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Matthew Ologbon, told the court that investigation revealed that Tanko and his collaborators, now at large, conspired to trick the deceased from her residence at Saw Mill area to Shoprite area, where she was killed.
The prosecutor also told the court that the suspect and his gang had raped the deceased inside their car at Tanko’s residence, Plot 6, Simeon Okedi Str., by Ukpabi Asika Road Junction, GRA, and took her body to a nearby junction.
He added that the police located Tanko’s house through the traces of bloodstains, prompted his arrest.
Besides, the prosecutor told the court that the mobile phone of the deceased, with number 08132188661,was found with Tanko at the time he was arrested.
He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest Tanko’s gang members.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the suspected killer in prison custody until other suspects were arrested and completion of police investigation.
The Presiding Magistrate ordered that the accused, Tanko, 51, be remanded in Mandala Federal Prison until the case resumed for further hearing on August 10.
