Kidnapping, a conspiracy against Fayose – Ekiti Assembly

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has described the rising spate of kidnapping in the State as a conspiracy against Governor Ayodele Fayose-led government.
A statement by the Speaker, Kola Oluwawole, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said the rate at which people were being kidnapped was worrisome, calling on the security agencies to spread their dragnets and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The assembly was reacting to the kidnapping of about 11 persons between April and May, as well as Tuesday’s kidnap of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Akingbade, by gun men in Ido Ekiti, Ekiti state.

Oluwawole said the lawmakers would continue to partner with the security agencies to ensure that the State is safe for the residents and intending investors.

The statement said, “The present government has been doing its best in curtailing the menace, but such should be complemented by members of the public through the release of useful information that could assist the security operatives in checking the trend of insecurity.

“The kidnapping of Reverend Father, Akingbade, is condemnable. This was alien to Ekiti culture until recently, when some unscrupulous elements were bent on making Ekiti State ungovernable because of their selfish reasons.
“We pray for the quick release of the man of God.”
