Counsel to the three accused persons who are currently standing trial on charges of conspiracy and kidnapping of Chairman of GUO Motors Limited, Chief Godwin Ubaka Okeke on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the All Saints Anglican Church Cathedral, Onitsha, Anambra state, yesterday told an Onitsha High Court I presided over by Justice Alexander Okumah that their clients were never a party to the kidnap saga.
Corporal Victor Edet, a policeman attached to Anambra State Headquarters of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Awkuzu as at 2009 had on Thursday while testifying before the court as the fifth prosecution witness, PW5, alleged that the defendants, Kelechi Okafor, Anthony Ifeanyi Okafor and Alexander Onyinanya and others still at large had on August 23, 2009, kidnapped Okeke, shot him in his left leg and took him to an unknown destination, only to release him the next day, August 24 after the payment of N30 million ransom by Okeke’s family.
Also displaying the weapons allegedly recovered from the suspects, before the court on Thursday, Edet noted that he was sure that the weapons belonged to the gangsters because since after the police recovered the weapons from an under ground armoury at Nando, as directed by Emeka Eze, no other bank robbery had taken place in the state, after the August 24, 2009 violent bank robbery perpetrated by this same gang that had now been smashed.
