Home Lottery Limited has given out the first house, a three-bed room bungalow valued about N12 million to the winner Mr. Gabriel Mokogwu in its on-going housing lottery scheme, designed to ameliorate the plight of Nigerians in the area of housing.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Lagos last Wednesday at Gold Estate located on Ishefun Road in Ayobo in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, Mr. Kelvin Otung, managing director of the Home Lottery firm observed that “the population of Nigeria, estimated at 170 million, requires at least 820,000 housing units per annum based on an estimate of nine dwelling units per 1000 of the population yearly,” adding that the “World Bank estimate puts it that over N59.5 trillion will be required to bridge the gap of 17 million deficits in housing.”
According to him, all over the world, there is scarcity of housing. The United Nation’s report on the challenges of affordable and qualitative housing shows that over 100 million people are homeless around the world.
He added that the “United Nations’ projection inferred that global urbanization rate is higher than global population growth.”
He said the objective of the lottery became imperative because government might not be able to address this problem in the nearest future and the efforts made by private estate developers in partnership with the banks seemed to yield very minimal progress since the majority of the Nigerian population cannot afford the mortgage facilities offered by these institutions.
Otung said the “need to make owning a home easily accessible and affordable to the “ordinary Nigerian” becomes the driving force behind “The Home Lottery” scheme.”
In an interview with our correspondent, Mokogwu said he was delighted to be presented with the house, adding that he got to know about the scheme while he was browsing on the internet.
He said he played the lottery with two lottery coupons of N250 each last May and later got a telephone from an official of the company that he emerged a winner of a house in the lottery.
Under the lottery scheme, every Nigerian, regardless of his or her social class or status is afforded the opportunity to own a home through The Home Lottery scheme.
The company is a limited liability company registered under the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in March 2015, with the Corporate Affairs Commission to carry on the business of providing housing for the Nigerian populace in an easy to play, affordable, sustainable and trusted lottery scheme.
The company was founded under the collaborative partnership of seasoned professionals in real estate development, entertainment/gaming and the communications and information technology industries.
The management of the company with its partners such as Locke Homes Limited, Gab Lotto Limited and Itex Integrated Services deploys its wealth of experience and expertise in their various professional fields in innovative and cutting edge technological solutions to deliver a platform that serves credible, transparent and logically balanced lottery promotions.
