The youths in Nanka community, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have protested against the alleged killing of one of their members by the police from “Zone 9”, Umuahia.
It was alleged that some police officers from there stormed the community to arrest some people for alleged dredging that had been banned by state government, so as to check environmental degradation.
The incident happened on Sunday and has heightened tension in the community, as the youths have continuously blocked the road that linked other communities in the area.
Before now, it was alleged that the shooting and killing of the unidentified youth was carried out by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
But the State Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, who spoke with the NairaNaija news on Thursday, said the agency should not be linked to the incident, as they were not in any way associated with it.
