The air is think and palpable with tension following the death of 7 youths in Bakassi.
The youths traveled to the high sea to investigate a private firm which was said to be operating in the area without council’s consent, when they met their death, DAILY TRUST says.
It was further gathered that six of them were buried by the sea as required by custom while the seventh, Ene, was brought home by his friends “for a befitting burial” at his house in Calabar South.
The youths became restive when the council chairman Mrs Edisua Usang-Iso, failed to appear or send a representative to the burial.
However, the council chairperson, Mrs Usangiso, said she had nothing to do with the burial, "all I know is that they are from Bakassi Local Government.” she said.
She agreed that there was palpable tension in her local government area, but maintained that, “the security situation is the same everywhere, even in Calabar.”
