The body of a man was yesterday found dangling near a tree along 7Up/Governor Road in Alausa, Ikeja area of Lagos State.
The dangling body of the man in his 30s caused a scare in the area, as many pedestrians avoided taking that side of the road, while motorists delayed momentarily to catch a glimpse of him before driving away.
At the time of filing this report, nobody had been able to identify the lifeless body.
The general manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident.
He said: “A young man hanged himself to a tree by 7up/Governor Road, Alausa, Ikeja. Body recovered by LASEMA and handed to to the police at Alausa Police Station”.
On what could have been responsible for the suicide, Oke-osanyintolu said investigation was still ongoing to unravel the cause of the suicide.
He appealed to the residents to pay attention to the happenings around them, saying if one of the residents or passersby had seen the man while attempting to commit suicide, perhaps, the tragedy would have been averted.
Residents and motorists who spoke about the development blamed it on the current hardship in the country.
They said that they were shocked to see the dangling body of a stranger on the tree in their neighborhood.
The police officers who came to remove his remains said they only found a tooth brush in his pocket.
