The Island Club recently honoured some prominent citizens, including the Osile Oke-Ona of Egbaland Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, for their selfless service to humanity and their commitment to improving development across the country.
The event, which also marked the valedictory ceremony for the outgoing chairman of the club, Prince Ademola Dada, saw other notable personalities get recognition for their support for the club and the society.
Among others honoured were Oba Tijani Akinloye, Alhaji Adedeji Salako, Dr. Olatunde Ayeni, Chairman of Skye Bank, Prince Bisi Olatilo and Chief Siji Olowosoku.
Speaking on the occasion, Oba Tejuoso, also expressed delight for being conferred with the honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Peacock, the highest rank among members.
He said, “This is an award that I will cherish for as long as I live. I qualified as a medical doctor in 1964 and from that period, my father did not let me rest until I joined the Island Club. I am indeed proud to be a member and also delighted for this honour, it means a lot to me.”
Dada thanked members for their support for him while also calling on them to extend same to his successor.
He said, “The journey was arduous but very exciting at every turn in the last three years. It was bumpy; it was rough and sometimes scary. But the comradeship of all the members kept me steady and well focused through those tough years.
“However, there were moments of darkness when I agonised whether being Chairman of Island Club was really worth the trouble. There were moments when my business really suffered and lacked direction. Moments when I moved from one courtroom to another to attend litigations against me just because I wanted to be chairman.
“As I leave, my hope and prayer is that whoever succeeds me will carry aloft the banner of progress in this great club.”
