A Kado Grade 1 Area Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Edache Johnson, to two months imprisonment for driving without a licence.
Johnson, who resides at Idu Karmo Village, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to two counts preferred against him by the police.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the convict also pleaded for leniency from the court.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, who handed down the verdict, however, gave him an option of N20, 000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Corporal Simon Emmanuel, while reviewing the facts of the case, told the court that the accused was arrested on April 23, 2015.
He said the case was reported by a Senior Traffic Warden, David Icha, of the Life Camp Police Station.
The policeman accused Johnson of driving a Nissan Primer vehicle along the Gwarimpa-Life Camp Road “recklessly and without consideration for other road users”.
The prosecutor added that the offences contravened sections 7(1) and 29 of the Road Traffic Act, Law of the Federation.
