‘Wempco road will be ready in one month’

The Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has assured Lagos residents that the protracted reconstruction work on Wempco Road will be over in a month.
Mobereola said this on Thursday during an inspection of the road with engineers and contractors in Lagos.
Residents and business owners on the road had been worried that the project, which had dragged past its advertised completion time, might be abandoned after the elections.
But Mobereola said the road was delayed by the channelisation done by Strabic Construction.
According to him, a huge drainage constructed on Lateef Jakande road will eliminate flooding by collecting wastewater from Wempco Road.
He also added that the road, which had been given the first layer of asphalt, would be ready in a month.
“We have two contractors working on the road. One of the contractors had to stop for the channelisation to be done and it is a job well done. The flooding experienced five years ago has now become history. It will never happen again and Lagos residents can look forward to enjoying passage and drainage that will last. We are sure that the road will be completed in about a month,” he said.
Admitting that channelisation and traffic delayed the project, the Lagos Area Manager, Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited, Mr. Salah Radwan, said about 140 light poles had yet to be erected on the road.
