"He gave us toys not laptops...Why can't our governor Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha be real for once" - Students Lament (PHOTOS)
Precisely on Friday, I heard that the sitting Governor Of Imo state was giving out FREE LAPTOPS to the students of the state and that a lot of students stormed the government house to get their own share of the state's cake, I was pleased at that because its something that will really foster education in the state. But, to my greatest surprise, few days after the "FREE LAPTOP" day, I started getting a lot of complaints from several students who were aggrieved by the quality of laptop they got and called it toys.

Special Assistant (SA) on Students Affairs to Okorocha, Mr Godstime Samuel, made the disclosure on in Owerri while distributing the laptops to the students.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the laptops were distributed during a student summit organised by the Bureau of Students Affairs with the theme “The Need for Free Education In Nigeria.”
The beneficiaries were students from Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri; the Imo Polytechnic, Umuagwo; Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri, and Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
Samuel said Okorocha had fulfilled all his promises to students as contained in his manifesto during the 2011 elections, which included 100 per cent implementation of free education at all levels in Imo.
He advised the students to see Okorocha’s programmes for Imo students as an opportunity for them to upgrade their knowledge, especially in the area of ICT.
“Every student must see this era as an era of capacity building because Okorocha has provided the enabling environment for any student to excel”, he said.
The Special Assistant said the bureau would soon establish a training centre for Imo State students, where different types of skills would be taught.
“We are planning to help government tackle unemployment by establishing skill acquisition centres for both graduates and undergraduates,” he said.
In her remark, president, National Union of Imo State Students, Miss Chidera Apuwara, said the summit, advocated the implementation of free education at all levels in the 36 states of the federation.
She said that several Nigerian students had been forced to abandon their university education mid-way due to lack of finance.
“Majority of our students who will have become either doctors or lawyers have ended up becoming motor mechanics due to financial constraints”, she said.
Apuwara urged the National Assembly to enact a law that would make education free and compulsory in Nigeria.
She commended Okorocha for donating the laptops to Imo State students.
