Students of the Accounting Department, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, under the aegis of Nigerian Accounting Students Association, has resolved the crisis generated by the financial report of a conference organised by the students.
A parliamentary sitting held by the students last Friday to clear grey areas of the financial report led to an exchange of blows by the students.
The Director of Socials of the association at the sitting was suspended and the President, Vincent Adebola, reportedly walked out of one of the sittings.
Also, a campus journalist, Lasisi Afeez, was reportedly attacked during the fracas.
When contacted on the telephone, the president, however, said the crisis had been taken out of proportion.
Adebola said, "The issue is that we were there to present the financial report of our Nigerian Students' Economic and Leadership Summit, but in the process of giving that report, there were lots of interjections from the members of the ASRC.
"It was just a minor issue and we were able to resolve it. There was nothing like fighting." The OAU Accounting Students' Representative Council in a statement by its Speaker, Famakin Olajide, and Clerk, Annie Umorien, also said the issues surrounding their financial report had been resolved.
The resolution of the ninth Parliamentary sitting, held on Monday, claimed that there was no misappropriation of funds by the executives.
It was gathered that about N1.7m was expended on the submit.
The resolution read in part, "It is very important at this juncture to know that both the parliamentary and the executives of the association are working towards a common goal, which is the progress of the association. It should not be seen that an arm is working against the progress of the association or trying to paint the image of the association (in a) bad (light).
The resolution also stated that the executive members responded to the demand of ASRC by coming to present the reports on NISELS 2015; NUASA software training, association and the various offices of the executives.
It, however, denied that the General Secretary, Oladiti Oladotun, was suspended.
The resolution added, "The NISELS report has been submitted and has been ratified by the House. Currently, the ASRC wants the whole Nuasites to know that there has not been any misappropriation of funds and nobody has embezzled the association's money.
"On the issue of the suspension of Director of Social, this is to notify all Nuasites and staff that the suspension has been lifted during the 9th Parliamentary sitting, after the Director of Social brought an apology letter for his misconduct during the 8th Parliamentary sitting of the House.
"Currently, the association has no suspended member. The House did not suspend the General Secretary."
