Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has directed the Ondo State Micro-Credit Agency to release N20m as loans to persons living with disabilities in the state.
The announcement of the governor’s action was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, on Monday.
Akinmade said Mimiko gave the directive for granting the loans while addressing persons living with disabilities , who visited him in his office in Akure, the Ondo State capital, promising that the initial capital would be increased as soon as the beneficiaries begin to pay back.
The governor noted that the loan would attract no collateral and would be interest- free. He also told his guests that their other demands, including award of scholarships, were already being implemented.
He also said that a certain percentage would be given to successful physically-challenged persons in the recently-conducted teaching service examination in the state.
Mimiko reiterated his administration’s commitment to putting in place policies and programmes that would continue to impact positively on the socio- economic well-being of the people.
Chairman of the physically-challenged persons in the state, Mr. Olasiyan Samuel, commended the governor for his gesture and promised that the association would continue to support his administration.
