Iraq's National Museum has officially reopened 12 years after it was looted during US-led military invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told Al Jazeera that the opening the museum was important especially after ISIL destroyed ancient statues in Mosul, as he vowed to protect the country's heritage.
Nearly a third of 15,000 pieces of the museum have been recovered.
Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from Baghdad.
