How to Use Your Car Keys as a Makeshift Home Alarm System

Sleep with your car keys on your nightstand. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to tamper with your property, they’re an arm’s length away. Then, press the panic button on your car keys (similar to the red button on the key fob in the accompanying photo). The alarm will be set off, freak everyone out–including barking dogs–and if there really is an intruder, they’ll run like the wind.

This should not be used as your primary source of a home security system, but it works in a pinch. If you hear anything suspicious on or around your property, call the police immediately.
