The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, Biodun Ogunyobi, of Mile 2 Area, Ayetoro Road, Abeokuta, for raping a 17-year-old lady.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was on an errand for her mother when the incident happened.
The spokesman for the command, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, explained that the victim was trying to help the rapist, when he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Adejobi said, “The young lady was sent by her mother to purchase a jar of kerosene. She was called by the suspect to assist him in carrying something. Ogunyobi eventually dragged her into his room and had unlawful carnal knowledge of the lady.”
The police spokesman said the victim later told her parents about the incident and they reported the matter to the police.
“The suspect has been arrested and necessary medical examinations have been carried out to confirm the allegation.
“The matter will be handled at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, and the suspect will definitely face the wrath of the law,” Adejobi added.
In another development, the command arrested about nine suspected armed robbers in the Sagamu and Ilese areas of the state.
Adejobi explained that policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Saturday, arrested some robbers at Sagamu junction, while they were about to rob some commuters along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway around 2pm.
He said after a gun battle between the robbers and the SARS men, Kolawole Fasasi, Sunday Oduwole and Ebenezer Abel were arrested, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
The spokesman said, “One pump action gun with four rounds of cartridges, one double-barelled pistol, some charms and a KIA car, marked, KTU 793 BB, which had been snatched by the syndicate earlier along Wasinmi-Papalanto Road at gun point, were recovered.
“The owner of the car had identified them as those that snatched the car from her and the said car had been released to her as directed by the Commissioner of Police Ikemefuna Okoye.”
Policemen attached to the Ilese Police Division in the Ijebu area of the state also arrested six suspected armed robbers who robbed some commuters in the area on Sunday by 4am.
The police had gone on a Search and Raid exercise of about four suspected houses in Ilese Ijebu after a report was made at the station.
“They arrested Sanusi Wasiu, Adewale Abass, Ramon Salau, Olatunji Emiloju, Olawale Olugbenga, and Dare Osunkanya.
“Eighteen live cartridges, one UTC knife, one dagger, one Axe, one hammer and other weapons suspected to have been used in their robbery operations were recovered from the houses.
“The matter will be taken to the SCID for further investigation,” Adejobi added.
