Killings: IGP deploys special forces in Zamfara

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed, has ordered the immediate deployment of Special Forces to checkmate the recurring attacks on Zamfara communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said in a statement on Monday that the police authorities had directed the Air Wing of the Nigerian Police to commence area surveillance of the state to ensure effective monitoring of the security situation.
Mba said the Special Forces on deployment include “10 Units of Police Mobile Force, three Units of Conventional Policemen, a Unit of Counter-Terrorism personnel, Border Patrol Teams and Force Intelligence personnel drawn from various Squadrons and Commands to reinforce the operation of the existing Force in the affected areas.”
He said the police border patrol teams had also been put on the alert to ensure effective surveillance of the border areas to prevent the attackers from infiltrating and escaping from the state.
Mba added that the heavy police deployment was the response of the IGP after an assessment of the security report from the besieged areas.
He quoted the IGP as having called on the people to cooperate with the police in the efforts at restoring peace and security in the area.
Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen had stormed a meeting in Zamfara State, killing over 105 people in Unguwar Galadima Community of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday
