A 27-year-old cleaner, Lateef Kareem, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s court for allegedly stealing foreign currencies and other items from his lawyer boss, Abiodun Onidare, and his boss’ wife, Mrs. Mona.
He was arraigned on two counts of stealing.
The defendant, who resides at 26, Oshodi Street on the Lagos Island, Lagos State, was said to have stolen one Aviator wristwatch valued N300,000, a digital camera estimated at N30,000 and a cash sum of £2,960 from Abiodun.
He also allegedly took 2,000 pounds, 600 US dollars, an I-Pad valued N14, 000 and one mini I-Pad valued N80, 000 from his wife, Mona.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the offence was committed between February 9 and 17, 2014 at the complainants’ residence on 53, Lawson Road at Onikan area of Lagos State.
He said, “Kareem was their cleaner. He stole these items between February 9 and 17, 2014. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
After the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial at the court.
His defence counsel prayed the court to admit him to bail in liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Eniola Fabamwo, admitted him to bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till May 28, 2014 for mention
