An 18-year-old barber, Samuel David, has been remanded in prison for allegedly killing his 62-year-old landlord, Alabi John.
The two were said to have had a disagreement over a dog David brought into the house, which degenerated into a fight.
It was learnt that David, who is an indigene of Oron, Mbo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, had come to Lagos in 2013 through the help of his elder brother.
The said brother also reportedly got him a shop for a barbing salon business and a room apartment at 108 Ikota Housing Estate, Ajah-Lagos, where the incident happened.
It was learnt that on March 24, 2014, the suspect had brought a friend’s dog into the house.
The landlord was however said to have frowned at the idea, insisting that David must take out the dog from his house.
The issue degenerated into a quarrel and then a fight ensued between the duo.
The police said the victim sustained injuries to his mouth and groin.
He was taken to hospitals in Ajah and Marina, before he finally died two days after.
The defendant was thereafter arrested and arraigned on one count of murder.
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
The police prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji, applied for the remand of the defendant in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
“The remand application is pursuant to Section 264(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, 2011,” he said.
The magistrate, Mrs. Y.J. Badejo Okusanya, agreed to remand the defendant in prison.
The matter was adjourned till May 14, 2014 for the DPP’s advice.
