Okpala: Keshi still waits on NFF

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has bemoaned the non recall of his assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala who was disengaged from the team after the Eagles won the African Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013.

Okpala was laid off on the excuse that the Nigeria Football Federation had lean resources and could not accommodate too many assistants.

It turned out to be a ploy to get him out of the way because he had reported to then Director General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Patrick Ekeji  bonuses were slashed for no just reason. Officials of the NFF did not take kindly to that and punished him for ‘’reporting’’ them to Ekeji.

But when they wanted to impose foreign assistants on Keshi, the former skipper of the Eagles said that the only assistant he wanted remained  Okpala.

At the Tom Tom roundtable yesterday, Keshi said that the NFF were still sitting on his request of recalling Okpalla for the World Cup. ‘’Up till now, there is no change. It is still the same thing. It might change tomorrow. We are in Nigeria’’, he said
