I appreciate President Goodluck Jonathan’s concern for those applicants who died in their bid to be recruited into the Nigeria Immigration Service. However, the cancelation of the whole exercise is not the solution as thousands who were in other centres went through some hardship and should not be made to pay for what was not their fault. Arrangement for another test in those places affected will be ok.

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has come across as an insensitive minister; what with his cockey rationalisation of the stampede that claimed the lives of immigration job applicants. As a fellow comrade, I feel ashamed on his behalf. I am scandalised. The insult the entire development has added to the injury is the scandalous extortion of N1,000 from suffering applicants! Can anybody then tell me what crime the former nis Director General, Mrs. Rose Uzoma, committed? Moro should be shown the way out, whether he was sponsord into office by the high and mighty or not. In saner climes, he would have resigned by himself.

The stampede at the venues of the Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment has only revealed that the leadership of this country is not sincere in tackling unemployment, and doesn’t have a plan for the suffering youths. Or, how does the government justify the sale of forms to this mammoth of job seekers when there are only limited spaces? This will only heighten the level of insecurity in the country. Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun- powder.
