FRSC records 197 deaths out of 286 crashes in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC says it recorded a total of 197 deaths out of 286 autocrashes from the month of January to November, 2013.


The State Sector Commander of the commission, Mr Sunday Henry Olatunji made this known yesterday during a special operation tagged "a suaka Lafiya", which commenced from December  19, 2013 to January  2, 2014.

According to  the Sector Commander, "the Special operation was an initiative of the commission to ensure safety of lives during the festive season and arrest drivers who commit traffic offences such as overspeeding,overloading,use of mobile phones while driving and invalid driving documents. The commission embark on such special operations several times in a year to instill the culture of safety in drivers and passengers"

He said," the commission recorded a total number of 1,203 casualities from 286 autocrashes for the year 2013. Out of the crashes, 197 persons were killed while 1006 were injuried".

Mr  Sunday who disclosed 34,000 officers were deployed nationwideto minimise the high rate of crashes during the season, said that 350 officers, which include marshals were equally deployed to all the  FRSC  commands in the twenty local government areas of Bauchi state.

He cautioned commercial drivers who are conscious of making profits during the festive seasons to ensure that they consider the safety of their passengers, pointing that the FRSC will not hesitate  in arresting and charging to court any driver who found violating traffic rules and regulations
