METRO REPORT 1 #result #Nigeriadecides #pollstream #2015election #breakingNews

Femi, Osun: The collation of election result was almost marred on Saturday as corps members had to resort to use their telephone light to collate results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Our correspondent, who observed the collation of result at Salvation Army Middle School discovered that there was no electricity supply to the school as at 11:30 pm when the collation was ongoing. Some of the ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission complained that they were not taken care of, saying they had not eaten anything since morning. Some of the corps members threatened to beat Channels Television crew – Bose Sodiq and Oloyede Oyegbenle. They also threatened to smash the camera of the TV station for daring to record them while collating the result in the dark. It took the intervention of some other journalists before the irate corps members were pacified.

General Buhari said the hiccups experienced in few states over the card readers were not enough to cast aspersions on the election.

Fielding questions from journalists in his house in Daura, Katsina State, ChannelsTV reports that General Buhari said reports made available to him by his observers indicated that the election had been generally peaceful. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for extending the exercise in some polling units till tomorrow.

INEC Extends Voting In 300 Polling Units Out 150,000 #result #Nigeriadecides #pollstream #2015election #breakingNews

Voting in ongoing general election has been extended to Sunday in 300 out of 150,000 polling stations, the electoral commission said, after technical glitches marred polling nationwide.
“Just about 300 polling units out of about 150,000,” spokesman for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kayode Idowu, told reporters, when asked about the number of polling station affected by the extension.

Hand-held card readers which scan voter’s biometric data malfunctioned or failed at various polling stations across Africa’s most populous country.

Kayode said there were 109 polling stations where “cards were not read” at all, another 100 stations where there were “issues” with biometric data, while card readers in other areas had battery problems.
The commission had earlier said that given the widespread malfunctioning of card readers, electoral officers had been empowered to manually check voter cards against a hard copy of the electoral roll.

During the election campaign, President Goodluck Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) repeatedly criticised the technology, which is designed to “read” fingerprints and other personal data in 10 seconds.

The main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) backed the use of the devices as a way of combating widespread vote-rigging in previous elections.
