According to His Excellency, the kind gesture is to appreciate and support the NAF for its efforts to contribute to education in Edo State.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Oshiomhole applauded the NAF leadership for putting up such edifice, stating that it is an indication of its commitment to the welfare of the personnel.
The Comrade Governor expressed his delight at the decision to name the building after late Warrant Officer Sababa John who died on 9 July 2011 while participating in OPERATION SAFE HAVEN. “I wish to commend the Chief of the Staff for his selflessness and exemplary leadership for finding it worthy to name this building after a fallen hero who died serving our fatherland instead of himself”.
Appreciating the supreme sacrifice paid by the deceased, the Governor donated N1million to the family.
The CAS had earlier paid a courtesy call on His Excellency in his office. Comrade Oshiomhole used the opportunity to place on record the appreciation of the Government and people of Edo State for the renewed determination by the Armed Forces, and the NAF in particular, to fight the scourge of Boko Haram insurgency which he said has redeemed the image of the Nigerian military and the nation before the international community.
Governor Oshiomhole also thank the Chief of the Air Staff for allowing the Police to use NAF facilities in the state to fuel their helicopters for aerial patrol during the just concluded gubernatorial election in Edo State.
Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar was in Benin to assess the state of operational facilities and welfare of personnel in 81 AMG. The Unit, according to the CAS, is expected to become more active in the months ahead as the NAF is at the verge of acquiring new platforms that would deployed to the unit
