Sorrow As Funeral Begins For Black Man Who Was Shot By Police In Minnesota. Photos



Family and friends of Philando Castile, an African-American man killed last week by a suburban police officer, gathered here Thursday for his funeral after a tumultuous period of grief, protests and accusations of racial profiling.


Hundreds of mourners filed into the ornate Cathedral of St. Paul here to pay respects to the family. .

Many were dressed completely in white or black, and several wore T-shirts with pictures of Castile and messages, including “Rest in heaven” and “RIP Philando.”

Philando Castile was fatally shot on July 6 after he was pulled over by St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez, who is Latino. Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, streamed the aftermath live on Facebook and said Castile was shot while reaching for his ID after telling the officer he had a gun permit and was armed.
