Be Warned, Don’t Drag Us Into Partisan Politics, Ekiti Monarchs Tell Politicians

The Ekiti Council of Traditional rulers, has cautioned politicians against dragging its members into partisan politics.

The monarchs were reacting to their alleged involvement in the feud between Governor Ayodele Fayose and his former political ally, Dr Tope Aluko, over the conduct of the June 21, 2014 governorship poll....

The traditional rulers maintained that they were neither lobbied nor compelled by Governor Fayose to write a communiqué condemning Aluko over his revelation that the polls was rigged in favour of the governor as claimed by an online media.

Addressing newsmen after the council’s meeting in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the Council’s chairman and Ologotun of Ogotun Ekiti, Oba Samuel Oyebade, denied the claim by the online publication to the effect that they disagreed with Fayose over his intention to conscript them to write a communiqué condemning Aluko over his role during a recent meeting held in Ado Ekiti capital city.

The monarch who maintained that no meeting of such was held, warned that his members should not be dragged into the murky water of politics under any guise.

According to the monarchs: ‘‘We note that the said online publication names specific traditional rulers as arrowhead of anti-Fayose’s stance .

“Council says unequivocally that the content of that publication was a blatant lie, a fabrication arising from the imagination of the writer. It was also a deliberate attempt to smear the image of the traditional rulers and set the government and the council against each other.’’
