A carpenter in Oke Afa, Magboro area of Ogun State, Kehinde Sabitu, has accused Best Aluminum Limited, Ikeja, Lagos, of defrauding him of about N518,000.
Sabitu, a pastor, had bought aluminum roofing sheets worth about N570,150 from the company on December 11, which was delivered to him three days after....
PUNCH Metro learnt that Sabitu was about to start using the goods the following day at a site in Magboro when he discovered that some parts were not corrugated.
It was also learnt that the roofing sheets had multiple colours contrary to what he demanded.
Sabitu said the production manager of the company, Mr. Chuks Nwene, and two others came to the site on December 16 to verify the state of the material after he reported the faults.
Hey said the owner of the house reported him at the Ibafo Police Station and he was arrested and detained for two days.
“After December 16, I did not hear from the company again. I petitioned its managing director on December 22 and two days after, the production manager and two others came to pack the roofing sheets worth N518,000. They promised to bring another set that evening. Chuks (Nwene) also promised that the company would rectify the multiple colours on some of the aluminum sheets.
“They did not bring the material as promised. The following day, I called Chuks’ number, and it indicated that it was switched off. I spent two days at the police station because of this matter. It was today (Tuesday) that I was able to reach him (Nwene) and he was still making promises. They wanted to defraud me,” he said.
The pastor urged the company to bring the material on time and demanded compensation, saying he had passed through a lot of pains.
“Since this issue started, I have spent N40,000 and my client has vowed to re-arrest me if I failed to do his job by December 31,” he added.
However, the production manager, Nwene, said the pastor formally reported the deficiencies in the roofing sheets at the company on December 23. He said workers had already been told to commence the Yuletide holiday the following day.
He said, “He did not report the faults to us on time. We spent extra money to call some workers to produce another one for him because they were on holiday. It is ready now and he can come for it tomorrow (Wednesday). The company will rectify the colours on the remaining sheets.”
